Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made a bold statement regarding Cristiano Ronaldo's future at the club. 👀 More here! ➡

Ronaldo is yet to officially work with United's new boss, having missed United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. The 37-year-old is understood to still be in Portugal after asking for some time out for family reasons.

It is also understood that the forward has asked the Red Devils to sell him in this transfer window, with the player reportedly wanting UEFA Champions League football next season, something the English giants cannot offer him. However, despite the five-time Ballon d'Or winner being practically non-existent in pre-season, United manager Ten Hag remains optimistic about the marksman's return to the club, and even suggested that he could extend his stay further.

"I am well informed, he also has an option [of another year]," the Dutchman said during a recent Q&A, according to"Yes [he could stay beyond next season]. Of course, I have signed here for three years but in football it's short-term as well. We have to win from the start so I don't look that far ahead.

"I have a strategy, it's a process, it takes time but in the end, we have to make sure from the outset there is a winning team."Ronaldo suffers another transfer blow?"I have set my demand. We want to play in a certain way. A top player can contribute and Ronaldo is an absolute top player in our squad.

"The players dictate the way you play. Especially players who score goals because they are extremely important for a team. You construct your team around them."
