Several Premier League players were locked inside a stadium in Belgium when a 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifying match was abandoned after two fans were killed by a gunman who remains on the loose.Brussels came to a standstill on Monday night after two Swedish fans were killed by a gunman ahead of Sweden's qualifying game against Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium.reports that they refused to return for the second half due to the events that had occurred ahead of kick-off.

Two supporters, wearing Sweden shirts, were shot dead in what is being called a terrorist attack by a gunman whom authorities in Belgium are still trying to track down. In a video posted on social media, a man claiming to be the killer said he was"inspired by the Islamic State". Fans and players at the King Baudouin Stadium were kept inside for their own safety after the match had been abandoned, including Tottenham Hotspur winger Dejan Kulusevski, Manchester United's Victor Lindelof and Manchester City's Jeremy Doku.

UEFA released a statement after the decision was reached for the game not to continue, saying:"Following a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels this evening, it has been decided, after consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities, that the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden is abandoned. Further communication will be made in due course."
