Classical pianist Patrick Mullins found a tough audience in one of his first public appearances – before his elementary school classmates in Enterprise in the 1950s.
Patrick James Mullins, 72, who died in New York City on July 31, would find far more appreciative audiences for the talent that emerged at 3 years old, when he would climb up onto the piano bench beside his sister Sandra as she practiced piano. Soon he was picking out parts of the classical pieces she would play.
Following his junior year at Juilliard , Patrick was invited to participate in the quadrennial Van Cliburn Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. His photo and challenging playbill and summary of his music history are shown in the official Van Cliburn program for that year:
