The latest fuel spill in English Bay comes three months after a federal committee recommended a series of improvements on how to respond to similar spills.

A group involving the Coast Guard, province, Vancouver, Richmond and the Tsleil Waututh, Squamish and Musqueam Nations worked with the ship owner to contain the spill. The federal Transport, Fisheries and Environment departments were also involved, along with the Port of Vancouver. The Coast Guard on Sunday said there was an aggressive effort to contain the slick and remove as much as possible from the water. Meanwhile, the Musqueam, Tsleil Waututh, Squamish and Lyackson First Nations were identifying areas of cultural sensitivity that might need protection.
On Monday, two shoreline cleanup assessment teams walked the shorelines to search for any signs of fuel, she said.No impacts to wildlife have been reported.”
