The Springboks ran in four tries to win 29-20, inflicting England's third home defeat in a rowThe winger scored in both halves of a compelling encounter during which, once again, England will be left wondering whether they could have sprung an upset if they had taken their chances.
England had drawn first blood through Ollie Sleightholme and edged ahead again in the second half, but the ruthlessness of the Springboks, who scored four tries in total, won out.By contrast, the game was only four minutes old when Sleightholme touched down in the corner, for the third time in two weeks the beneficiary of a touch of magic from Marcus Smith.
However, most knew better than to write off the Springboks after a shaky 10 minutes, and sure enough they hit back within seven, the electric Grant Williams picking a gap between Ellis Genge and George Martin before sending Freddie Steward halfway back to Leicester with his sidestep. And the lead was nine points after just 22 minutes when Libbok got a cross-kick much more right and Kolbe calmly stepped inside Steward., and they were halfway there after only 26 minutes, Sam Underhill picking a fine line to score on his return to the team, replacing the concussed Tom Curry.
