The wife of a slain EMPD officer has been arrested in connection with his death. Authorities believe she orchestrated the hit and paid a hitman to carry out the murder.
The wife of the late Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department ( EMPD ) officer, Banele Sikhosana, was arrested on Friday afternoon while making arrangements for his funeral. Sikhosana was fatally shot on February 7th while opening his tuck shop in Rest in Peace in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni. Authorities swiftly apprehended a man at the Kwa-Thema Hostel, who confessed to carrying out the murder. Investigations revealed that this tragic incident was not the first attempt on Sikhosana's life.
His wife was allegedly involved in a previous attempt to poison him. Acting EMPD chief of police Julius Mkhwanazi stated that the confessed hitman admitted to being paid by Sikhosana's wife, with the final payment allegedly made shortly after the murder. Police report that an additional suspect is still at large, but an imminent arrest is expected. A memorial service for Sikhosana was held at his home on Thursday. The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court tomorrow
