Jordan Bardella, 28, the RN’s president and leader in the European elections, had urged Mr Macron to call legislative elections after projections were announced, saying French voters had “expressed a desire for change”. He said his decision to call an election was an “act of trust”, adding that he had faith in “the capacity of French people to make the best choice for them and for future generations”.coalition took 14.6 per cent. That left his party with 13 seats, in comparison to 30 for Ms Le Pen’s party.In France’s last legislative elections in 2022, Mr Macron’s party lost its majority, making it more difficult to pass bills.
Two and a half years with a far-right prime minister may well be enough to make the far right less popular again.Ms Le Pen, who is set to lead the RN into the next election and is doing well in the polls, welcomed the decision to call the election. The far-left politician Francois Ruffin called on various leaders from the left, including the Greens to unite under a single “Popular Front” banner. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said that would help “avoid the worse, to win”.
