The billionaire entrepreneur says he has more work to do to ensure the EV company perfects AI for a range of commercial applications.
Elon Musk may be giving up his role as Twitter’s CEO but the mercurial billionaire told Tesla shareholders he has no plans to give up that job at the electric vehicle company as he intends to oversee its development of artificial intelligence for lucrative commercial uses.
“Tesla's gonna play an important role in AI and AGI and I think I need to oversee that to make sure it’s good,” Musk said Tuesday. “That’s a thorny problem if there ever was one. Very few people, even in the AI community, … appreciate just how much capability Tesla has in AI. It's by far the most advanced real-world AI. There’s no one even close.”
Musk made no specific comments about how many more years he intended to continue as Tesla’s CEO, a role that’s made him fabulously wealthy with massive stock awards.Tesla's Elon Musk says he has no plan to step down as its CEO for the foreseeable future.Beyond touting Tesla’s AI prowess, Musk reiterated his long-held belief that the value of Tesla electric vehicles will increase exponentially once the company perfects its Autopilot and Full-Self Driving tech.
“I think basically everyone would want one—and maybe people would want more than one, which means the actual demand for something like Optimus, if it really works, … is 10 billion units? It's some crazy number. It might be 20 billion units,” he said.
