Musk says such a fee would help combat 'vast armies of bots'

People could soon be charged to use X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk has suggested. In a recent live stream, the billionaire businessman, who acquired the social media company Twitter in April 2022, revealed plans to make users pay 'small monthly fees'.

On the reason behind his incentive, Musk said the fee would help combat "vast armies of bots". He did not however expand any further, so how much the fee would cost and whether any extra features would be included is yet to be confirmed. X users already have the choice to opt into a premium subscription, which costs £9.60 a month. The subscription gives users a blue verification tick, allows them to share longer posts, edit existing ones and prioritises their account in search results.
