WATCH | Election Day Reflections: Apathy, drinking time and logistical hiccups hinder voters

In this year's elections, 19-year-old Yamkela Madlaba from Diepkloof, Soweto, faced her first opportunity to vote but chose not to, citing a lack of conviction by any party to address the pressing issues facing the youth.

Like Mvelase, drinks flow freely between Benny Mapholi and his friends, the 36-year-old is adamant that he will cast his vote before voting stations close this evening."I have not voted yet," he told City Press just a few hours before voting closed, adding that he was patiently waiting for the long queues, which have seen some spend hours waiting for their chance to cast their votes, to"get shorter".

Mokgobo Bogogo who also resides in Protea Glen says in an effort to ensure that he casts his vote as early as possible, he arrived at his voting station at"7:30 but the voting process has been slow as there weren't enough ballot papers.""I got there at around 7.30 but had to wait for about close to five hours. The process was too slow and having woken up at 6am to get there early, it was disappointing", he said.
