President Cyril Ramaphosa announces the long-awaited date for the 2024 general elections, coinciding with SA's 30th year of freedom.
In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, the Presidency announced that on Wednesday, 29 May, South Africans will go to the polls to cast their votes for the 2024 general national and provincial elections.
Ramaphosa has therefore urged everyone who is eligible to vote to take part in full in this “important and historic” occasion in South Africa’s democratic calendar.“Beyond the fulfilment of our constitutional obligation, these upcoming elections are also a celebration of our democratic journey and a determination of the future that we all desire,” the president said.
