It’s a new slate of candidates on the ballot this time around, with local development lawyer Chris Davis running for the UCP against NDP candidate Samir Kayande, an energy analyst whose resume includes sitting on the board of the clean-energy think-tank Pembina Institute. Kerry Cundal is running for the centrist Alberta Party in a riding they’ve previously had success in.
“I don’t know if the UCP can win without Glenmore, because I think it’s a bit of a bellwether,” he said. “If they can’t hold Glenmore, then they’re not going to hold Calgary-Elbow and they’re not going to hold Calgary-Acadia. UCP MLA Nathan Neudorf has his hands full running against the NDP’s Rob Miyashiro, a former Lethbridge city councillor.While the majority of competitive ridings in southern Alberta are expected to be within Calgary, communities such as Red Deer, Medicine Hat and the Bow Valley could be in play for either party.
