Elected leaders, not branches, will choose ActionSA's leadership teams - Mashaba
ActionSA North West premier candidate, Kwena Mangope, is flanked by the party's leader Herman Mashaba, right, and its spokesperson, Lerato Ngobeni.Herman Mashaba says ActionSA wants to launch branches in 60% of the country's more than 4 000 wards before going to an elective conference.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has said the party will only hold its elective conference after next year's general elections, and elected provincial chairpersons will appoint their leadership teams, not the organisation's branches. On Wednesday, he spoke at the announcement of Kwena Mangope - the son of former Bophuthatswana homeland leader Lucas Mangope - as ActionSA's premier candidate for the North West at next year's provincial polls.
However, he said he was not nostalgic for apartheid when the repressive regime selected what it called"chief ministers" to lead homelands, where black people were designated to live according to their ethnic and cultural groups in pseudo-independent states. I cannot be nostalgic because the country had to be where it was; move from separate development to where we are now. So, I'm not nostalgic at all; I have moved on.
