Elderly Soweto resident passes away due to smoke inhalation - SABC News

A fire has claimed yet another life as the cold weather continues to grip Gauteng.

Emergency Services responded to an incident in Emdeni, Soweto, where an 82-year old man died of smoke inhalation due to a house fire.

The Johannesburg Emergency Services, Xolile Khumalo, “Upon arrival they found a four roomed house was on fire and the community was assisting with extinguishing the fire. An elderly male, at age 82 unfortunately succumbed to smoke inhalation during the incident. EMS urges the community to pleased exercise extra caution when handling heating and other lighting sources.”

On Tuesday, four people have lost their lives in two separate shack fires reported in the City of Johannesburg. The victims included three adults and one child.
