This follows a plea on social media by Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema for the public to assist in locating more than 70 trucks last week.

JOHANNESBURG - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality says it has no reports of stolen or missing waste trucks in the city.

This follows a plea on social media by Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema for the public to assist in locating more than 70 trucks last week.But the municipality told Eyewitness News that the EFF alongside other councillors approved a request to write off and dispose of the trucks as they were redundant or obsolete.

Barely weeks since EFF councillors took office as members of the mayoral committee in Ekurhuleni - they turned to the public raising concerns about missing waste trucks, millions in unpaid invoices and the overall financial health of the city.But Eyewitness News understands that these claims - which have caught the attention of the auditor general's office are unfounded.

In February, the EFF along with other parties in council approved a request to have assests including the trucks auctioned. EFF Gauteng chairperson Nkululeko Dunga who's also the finance MMC has been accused of being overzealous and failing to understand the limitations of his executive powers.
