Officers intercepted a robbery as suspects were loading liquor worth over R15m into four trucks.

The truck involved in this morning’s crash on the R21 in Ekurhuleni was filled with cases of liquor taken during an armed robbery at a warehouse in Kempton Park.

According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, police in Gauteng, working with private security officers, intercepted a gang of 44 men during the robbery.“When officers arrived at the scene the suspects were loading liquor to the value of over R15m into four trucks,” he says.“Police gave chase and one of the trucks crashed on the R21 in Kempton Park.Police also seized two VW Polo vehicles that were used in the commission of crime.

The team involved in the arrests comprised of members of the SAPS, Fidelity Specialised Service, CAP Specialised Service and Tracksquad Security. The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court facing charges of business robbery, possession of stolen property, and being in the country illegally.
