The EFF has not wavered in its objections to the inclusion of Acting Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka in the shortlist, despite her passing the security vetting.

The committee on Tuesday morning was briefed on the three reports from the State Security Agency , SA Police Service Crime Intelligence and human resources, which were tasked with checking for any security concerns, criminal records, and qualifications of the shortlisted candidates.

The SSA also noted that their investigation results were deemed “personal suitability checks”, so, once a candidate was appointed to the position of Public Protector, the agency would fulfil its statutory counterintelligence mandate of conducting a fully fledged security vetting. The investigation outcomes are based on information currently available to the State Security Agency Domestic Branch.

However, committee chairperson Cyril Xaba told Maotwe she was out of order for raising the EFF's objections at this stage of the processing, saying she would have an opportunity to raise her concerns during the interview process.ANC MP Qubudile Dyantyi, who chairs the committee for Section 194, agreed with Xaba.
