Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss a controversial plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to permanently displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. Trump's plan has sparked outrage in the Arab world, and Egypt has vehemently opposed it, stating it would prioritize its own plan for Gaza's reconstruction that ensures Palestinians remain on their land.

Egypt has said its plan would “ensure Palestinians remain on their land”.Egypt’s close cooperation with the United States has been a bedrock of Washington’s Middle East policy for decades.

Last year, the US allocated $1.3 billion in military aid to Egypt, and in December it approved the potential sale of more than $5 billion worth of arms.
