At an election manifesto meeting in Lenasia on Saturday, the EFF vowed to take serious action against crime in South Africa.

JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters 's Julius Malema said police should not be scared in their homes or anywhere else in the country.

He said that it would not take an EFF government, if voted into power by the electorate in May, more than three months to address South Africa’s persistent issue with violent crime. Malema delivered a keynote message before a full hall in Lenasia, telling those in attendance that his party would have a satellite police station in every ward.He also defended police in the face of claims that they were using excessive force, making an example of the notorious Cato Manor crime unit, which became known as the 'Death Squad'.

The 29-member division were accused of several crimes, including the murders of at least 28 suspected criminals in 2008. He said that while the unit was doing a good job, it got excited and started killing innocent people."Because of our Constitution and the way things are, that group of police were exposed and removed from the police force. We’ve got checks and balances in South Africa to ensure that police do not abuse their power."
