Mbalula made a mockery of the Economic Freedom Fighters as they led protests in different parts of the country.
JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress secretary general Fikile Mbalula said that the Economic Freedom Fighters in pursuit of a stayaway misled people, but that the majority of South Africans rejected its call.On Monday, members of the EFF led demonstrations in several cities across the country calling for an immediate solution to the country's energy crisis.Mbalula commended the police for their handling of the sporadic demonstrations.
He admitted that there are legitimate concerns in South Africa but noted that the EFF’s march was not aimed at addressing them.“When the CIC calls for a shutdown, South Africa will respond. South Africa showed him a big no,” he said adding that Malema’s attempt to shut down South Africa “has dismally failed”.
Meanwhile, EFF Julius Malema said that he is delighted with the outcome of the party's nationwide protest. Speaking to the media near the Sefako Makgato presidential guest house in Pretoria on Monday, Malema said that the protest trashed misconceptions that suggest the EFF is a violent party. "So that is the success of a shutdown but the cherry on top: no looting, no burning of public property. Everything went smoothly [and] according to plan against the doomsayers who wanted to associate the EFF with looting.”
