Eerie photos taken inside abandoned Greater Manchester hospital show decaying medical equipment
A Greater Manchester hospital has been left abandoned and decaying for years, with medical equipment and furniture still scattered throughout its corridors and rooms.Memorial Hospital was a bustling medical centre before its closure in 2015. The facility was built around 1850 as a private residence, before being lent to the British Red Cross and converted into an auxiliary hospital during the First World War.
After the war, a local trust acquired the building and turned it into a maternity hospital in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives. The facility joined the NHS in 1948 and was converted into a geriatric hospital in 1985.Since closing in 2015, Stretford Memorial Hospital has remained empty and decaying. In 2021, a developer submitted plans to restore the building, but it still remains in a dilapidated state.
