StarEditorial: Spring brings a chance to try again. If living is a process of growing and being changed, spring reminds us of that. If that reminder contains whisperings of our own transience upon the planet, it focuses and motivates us.
It’s not for nothing that poets down the generations have been moved to write odes to spring, or that the most ancient of our forebears ritually celebrated the shift from darkness back to light.Gerard Manley Hopkins concurred, saying simply “Nothing is so beautiful as spring.”
At the same time, being a season of transition, it is perhaps the most sensuous, the explosion of colour over a winter-dulled landscape, the thawing earth squelching in soft rain and issuing the scent of growing things. Festival chairman Christopher Hocher captured the essence of such events in his thank you to those who made it a huge success“It is because of your passion and commitment that the festival was able to bring joy to so many people,” he said. “From the delicious maple treats to the entertainment and activities, to the sense of community that was felt by all who attended.”
