Heaping guilt upon the grief of the afflicted spells disaster both for managing the virus and for our divided society
In an attempt to compile a feature piece on the Faces of Covid-19 recently, Sunday Times journalists were told by several grieving families that the discrimination they faced from their neighbours and communities was as devastating as the grief of losing a loved one and they were therefore not willing to be identified.
It’s bad enough that some of them are coronavirus-positive and grappling with issues of their own mortality, along with the grief, but to be apportioned blame and saddled with judgement for something over which they have no control is just shameful and unfair.A subscription gives you full digital access to all Times Select content.
