It seems any attempt to make changes in the health-care system attracts rancour. But we all know the status quo isn’t working. People are dying.

Nova Scotia’s first step involves paid patient advocates in every ED in the province to liaise between patients and staff, beginning this weekend. That seems like an easy model to test and, if successful, duplicate across the region.

At this point, it is encouraging to see any real attempt to fix health-care ills.
