Some have called the red berets a bunch of anarchists with no proper political agenda. The fear is also understandable if you consider that the last nationwide protest, sparked in part by the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma in 2021, led to mayhem. That cost the country immensely in terms of the lives lost and destruction of property resulting in billions of rands in economic losses.
