Former Oakland school trustee’s devotion to helping others stands out in Alameda County supervisor race.
Now, having twice run unsuccessfully for mayor, and finding herself politically overshadowed by a new generation of council members, Kaplan is trying to move on. If she were to win, Oakland would be better off without her braggadocious political style, but Alameda County officials would have to put up with it.
While all four candidates understand the process of governing and the politics of Alameda County, it’s Kakishiba who brings the best experience. He’s running because he wants to facilitate change. He sees homelessness getting worse and crime and violence on the rise. The solutions, he says, lie not only in pushing through significant policy programs but also ensuring those programs deliver as promised.
