The move by Health Canada to require health warnings to be included not just on packaging but on the cigarettes themselves seems excessive.

This country is the only one in the world to put warnings on cigarettes themselves. How small will the print have to be in order to fit? Will Health Canada require every pack to come with a magnifying glass, so smokers can read the warning every time they light up? What’s the point of labelling something that is, by the nature of the product, about to go up in smoke?Article content

That said, tobacco is a legal product that’s highly taxed by many levels of government. There’s a hypocrisy in governments warning us against using a product when it directly profits from the sale of that commodity.
