The PM spent most of July on the move. If being seen was his goal, he certainly met it, with pit stops at the Calgary Stampede, visits to kids’ camps, family farms, tree plantings and barbecues among the items on his agenda, along with a side seat on the Pope’s penitence tour. It’s a bit late in the game to be blaming the pandemic for everything, and even members of the federal civil service who are still working from home are presumably working, so what the heck is going on?The Government of Canada website notes: “We’re working to deliver passports as quickly as we can. Due to high volumes, processing times are longer than usual.”
“We’re so short-staffed and spending so much time dealing with this app that we really don’t have time to do our actual jobs anymore,” the president of the Customs and Immigration Union, Mark Weber, recently told the Canadian Press.
