McKelvie, the councillor for Scarborough-Rouge Park, appears to have taken that message to heart and to the powers that be. She has penned two strongly worded letters to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland — and also a Toronto MP — and Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy requesting support for aShe thanked the higher levels of government for their respective contributions to the city but didn’t sugar coat the situation Toronto finds itself in, even with the help it has received.
In the letter to Freeland, McKelvie writes that the city’s efforts to increase revenues through measures like a property tax hike, “are not enough to meet the needs of our city’s increased shelter costs and decreased TTC farebox revenue, while effectively delivering services for millions of residents in the country’s economic engine.
