Edinburgh Zoo has revealed that its 12-year-old red panda Kitty was put to sleep as a result of 'age-related health problems', and visitors have taken to social media to share their thoughts.
Beloved panda Kitty was put to sleep due to "age-related health problems" after vets reviewed her overall wellbeing and quality of life.
The 12-year-old raised seven kits as part of the European Endangered Species Programme, and according to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, "was an amazing mother" and "very popular" with staff and visitors. "We are sad to announce the loss of red panda, Kitty," Edinburgh Zoo wrote, taking to Facebook to announce the news.View gallery "She had been experiencing age-related health problems, and after reviewing her overall wellbeing and quality of life, our expert vets advised she should be put to sleep.
"Our thoughts are with our keepers who cared for Kitty both here at Edinburgh Zoo and at Highland Wildlife Park since her arrival in 2012."
