An Edinburgh man was shocked when he was met with a vile homophobic slur in his home city this week
. Chris Creegan, a public policy consultant from Edinburgh, was in the city centre after meeting a friend on Monday, when he was left "perplexed" by the sudden abuse.
Chris said on Twitter : "It’s 2022, I’m 61, and I first came out, aged 18, in 1979. This evening, after dark, in Edinburgh’s New Town, a man passing me as I unchained the lock on my bike muttered aggressively, ‘f***ing gay boy.’ As I’ve said before and will keep saying, we’re not there yet." "Just within a few minutes, I was simply unchaining the chain on my bike, and the guy was walking on Dundas Street. And as he walked towards me, he kind of brushed past me. And he said, what he said, I was perplexed. I wasn't upset. I didn't feel in any immediate danger, I wasn't immediately upset or distressed by it, I think possibly because I've been openly gay for a very long time.

Wearing my jeans and my trainers, my cycle fluorescent waterproof cycle jacket. I have quite a bright silk scarf. It's got lots of bright colours and including pink.
