EDF investigate customer and quiz her neighbour after she reduced energy use to afford bills ➡️ Victoria Whiteman told theipaper she has been turning off lights, stopped watching TV and barely uses her gas heating in recent months to keep bills down
Prepayment meter tariffs are more expensive and force customers to pay up front for their energy, meaning many families are left sitting in the dark and cold when their cash runs out.
Many of the big energy providers such as EDF have their own members of staff involved in this area, but there are also a number of third-party companies that carry out investigations on their behalf. The UKRPA says meter tampering is on the rise and that agents are being trained “to identify methods of meter interference and regularly trawl their customer information systems to identify possible theft”.
“We have a range of support we can offer our customers in financial difficulties based on their individual circumstances.”
