“This comes after the department initially issued a ‘return to work and refrain from illegal/unprotected strike action’ notice on April 30 for staff to report for duty and for them to execute their duties.As from Tuesday, staff participating in the unprotected illegal strike action had not all reported for duty and/ or executed their duties.

He said the court interdicted the seven unions against participating in the unprotected strike or any conduct in the continuation of the strike, among other things.“We have been saying it cannot be correct that our people are deprived of health and care. We remain committed to resolving the issues raised by the unions but embarking on an unprotected strike, illegally closing our facilities, allegedly threatening and intimidating non-striking workers and agency nurses, cannot be tolerated.

She said services at some healthcare facilities such as Motherwell, and Kwazakhele had been affected. The department had more than R700 million budgeted for the 2022/23 financial year for more than 2 900 vacancies which would be filled.
