"They're going to Ottawa to apply maximum pressure." — Political pundit and NDP loyalist Jeff Ferrier

It will be the first time Eby sits down face to face with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. At the top of the agenda is the Canada Health Transfer, which Canadian premiers say should be raised from 22 per cent of the province and territories’ health care costs to 35 per cent. Eby also wants to see separate funding for community health — which includes home support and seniors care — and mental health and addiction.Start your day with a roundup of B.C.

Eby is bringing six of his top ministers with him to Parliament Hill, including Attorney-General Niki Sharma, Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon, Climate Minister George Heyman, Jobs Minister Brenda Bailey, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Murray Rankin, and Energy Minister Josie Osborne. It is an indication the B.C. NDP government has a long wish list they would like to advance before the spring federal budget.

“We need immigration, but in order for people that are already here and those who are coming to be successful, we need to have the affordable housing, as well as the housing starts to be able to accommodate people,” Kahlon said. Attorney-General Sharma will be making the case for federal bail reform, a priority backed by all 13 premiers who say the current system has failed to keep repeat offenders behind bars, which puts the public and police officers at risk.
