The new documented cases follow the international organisation less than three weeks ago saying the disease was largely contained.
The World Health Organisation has warned that Ebola is spreading through the Democratic Republic of Congo at its fastest rate yet after it was first detected eight months ago.
Medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres was forced to suspend its activities in two of the most affected areas after five Ebola treatment centres came under attack from armed militia. However, the following week WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said a record 57 cases were reported. Last week the number of cases jumped to 72.After three-quarters of the Ebola deaths last week took place outside treatment centres, and the risk of the disease spreading to other people in the vicinity, who have no access to treatment, has spiked.
