Breezy winds and rain showers look to arrive in Southcentral through the day FridayANCHORAGE, Alaska - Some isolated activity remains across Southcentral Alaska this morning with the possibility for some light wintry mix.
This comes as temperatures continue to drop this morning, with most of Southcentral sitting in the low- to mid-30s. Even if a light wintry mix doesn’t occur, the cooler morning and recent showers and melting will lead to some slick conditions this morning. Be extra cautious on the roads throughout the day, particularly when driving through Turnagain Pass where the avalanche danger remains considerable.
Much like Southcentral, Southeast Alaska will begin to see some quieter weather return to the region. Sunshine can be expected in the forecast today, with some areas of morning fog. A dense fog advisory has been issued for parts of the Panhandle this morning, where visibility could be greatly reduced. As the fog burns off later this morning, be prepared for a warm day. Highs this afternoon will warm into the mid- to upper 40s.
A low just south of the Aleutians will be our next weather maker across the state, with winter storm watches already being issued for Southwest Alaska. The Aleutians can expect to see increasing winds, snow, and rain overnight into Thursday as the low moves to the northeast. While most of the precipitation favors the islands and southwest Alaska through Friday, heavy rain looks to build into Southcentral and Southeast this weekend.
It’s likely with rain in the forecast we could see highs drop back into the upper 30s across the region. Any rain we see across Southcentral will taper off through Easter Sunday, with cooler weather set to make a return. As the calendar flips from March to April, expect highs to drop back into the low- to mid-30s for highs. It’s looking possible that snow will make a return in the forecast next week.
