If you're a long-running EastEnders fan you'll remember the friendly face of cab driver Charlie Slater who arrived in Walford with his four daughters and mother-in-law Mo Harris back in 2000.
Charlie temporarily left Albert Square in 2011 but returned periodically until he suffered a fatal heart attack in 2016 during his final and emotional scenes that broke the nation's hearts. Milestone birthday The legendary EastEnders actor recently celebrated his 90th birthday and looked thrilled as he posed alongside a huge birthday cake.
Son's health battle Derek's return to Albert Square in 2016 helped him explore the complexities of mental health issues as his own son, David battled with depression. Calls for comedy The soap still heavy in his heart, last year Derek urged writers to bring back the comedy after he said it had become "irrelevant" and "miserable".
