The Quakes kick off their fourth season under Matias Almeyda with new talent added this offseason, but without club legend Chris Wondolowski.

Matias Almeyda arrived in San Jose with a reputation as a turnaround specialist, but he seems to have met his match with the Earthquakes.

Almeyda came from Chivas, which he led to the CONCACAF Champions League title after the Mexican club barely escaped relegation the year before his arrival. Prior to that, he took over two teams in his native Argentina that had just been relegated and led them both to the top division in his first season in charge.

Outside expectations are low once again—six of the eight experts on MLS.com picked the Quakes to finish in the bottom two in the Western Conference, which now has 14 teams. And for the first time in 13 years, San Jose won’t have club legend Chris Wondolowski, who retired with a league-record 171 goals.
