It's going to feel like summer across the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday.
A woman hangs out near the shoreline of Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach in Alameda, Calif. on December 1, 2021. The Bay Area is experiencing unseasonable warm temperatures. It's going to feel like summer across the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday with inland temperatures climbing into the 80s and coastal spots reaching the high 70s, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures could be more than 20 degrees above normal.
Tuesday is likely to be the hottest day of the week. On Wednesday, afternoon inland temperatures are expected to rise into the 80s, but coastal spots will be cooler than they were on Tuesday with an ocean breeze picking up. The Bay Area isn't the only place that will see unusually warm weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. With high pressure building over the West Coast, the heat is hitting all of California, and Southern California is predicted to see temperatures break into the 90s in inland areas.
UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain referred to the warm-up as a"significant early season heat wave." SwainThe Sierra snow pack wasof normal for this time of year on Tuesday and this is concerning as the snow pack is a key water source for the state throughout the summer when snow melt replenishes reservoirs and rivers. Reservoir levels are also dropping as the state has seen a prolonged period of mostly dry weather since the start of the year.
