A few Eagles players are intrigued by the news that flag Football will be added to the Olympics in 2028.

“It’s being played by so many people, and there’s another opportunity within the sport of football to play at the highest level and not only for men but also for women,” Mayes said. “I think that was one of the great pieces about flag football’s inclusion is it’s so gender equitable.

While the players may be putting their candidacy for a roster spot out there, there are still a few details that have to be ironed out, not only between the IOC and the International Federation of American Football but even when it comes down to getting the NFL and the National Football League Players Association, the union for the players, to work things out. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sounds like he and the league are on board for the sport to be on a worldwide stage.
“We look at best team fit chemistry, we get them on the field, they play flag,” Mayes said. “If they’re not familiar with flag, we teach them the game, and then that’s how we ultimately move forward with our final roster that travels and competes.”
