The DWP scheme sees households given £25 payments during cold weather
Thousands of households can get a free financial boost from the DWP this winter. Cold weather payments are to be activated next month if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below for over seven consecutive days. The 2024 to 2025 scheme will start tomorrow, November 1, 2024 and people can receive £25 payments across seven day periods until March 31, 2025.
The cold weather payment is a grant paid by the Government to older people and those on certain benefits in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to help pay for heating costs. In order to receive the payments you do not need to apply. If you’re eligible to get a Cold Weather Payment, you’ll be paid it automatically. The Cold Weather Payment scheme runs from November 1 and March 31. After each period of very cold weather in your area, you should get a payment within 14 working days.
