DWP change in 12 UK areas will get 'thousands' back into work

The new scheme has already been trialled in Leeds and will now be expanded.

The Department for Work and Pensions has claimed that a pilot scheme being rolled out to 12 areas will help people into employment quicker. A programme has been trialled in Leeds which sees claimants and health practitioners developing a 'work ability plan' over a one-hour conversation, identifying any barriers to employment they may face and solutions to overcome them.

The Government claims that thousands more out of work benefit claimants will receive support under the pilot. The move comes ahead of Work Capability Assessments being abolished later this decade.The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, said: "We are pushing ahead with the next generation of welfare reforms to ensure benefit claimants get as much support as soon as possible to move towards work and the more prosperous life that brings.
