Dwayne Johnson turned down the chance to have a cameo in Shazam 2
Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson reportedly was offered to cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but supposedly turned down the chance. While the DC Universe will have more in store during 2023, the franchise did release its latest chapter this fall with Black Adam, focusing on the iconic antihero. After having been attached to the role for several years, Black Adam finally brought the iconic Shazam foe to life, as well as the Justice Society of America.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With all of the shake-ups going on at Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios, it appears Johnson's Black Adam had a chance to appear in another DCU film. The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez revealed in a Tweet that the mega-star had been offered to do a cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Supposedly, Johnson turned down the opportunity when asked if he wanted to show up as his DCU character. Johnson, the creative team, Warner Bros.
The bigger question that is now raised is what the future looks like for Black Adam after his 2022 movie due to its financial struggle, but also the way DC Studios seems to be operating. Based on several debunks by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, as well as some of his recent statements, many are predicting that Black Adam 2 is not happening, partially because of a potential reboot coming in the near future.
If it's only a soft reboot, there is still a chance for Johnson to reprise the Black Adam character, but maybe in other films rather than have his own continuing DCU franchise. Assuming that Johnson's dislike of the Shazam franchise is false, but that it was true that he turned down a cameo for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, they could still stage a fight between them in a future DCU project.
