Duterte vows probe on SEAG blunders, but makes appeal to ‘let the games go on for now’

“shut up” and let the Southeast Asian Games go on for now, President Duterte said Friday amid the controversies plaguing the international sports event.The President made the appeal after assuring that an investigation will be conducted on the alleged irregularities in the country’s hosting of the SEA Games.

Complaints about transport delays, poor hotel accommodations, unfinished sports facilities have marred the country’s hosting of the games. The organizing committee led by House Speaker Cayetano has been widely criticized for alleged ill-preparedness for the regional sports event. “I was just kind of shooting the breeze with everyone when I said that parang hindi ako makapaniwala, parang ganun [that I did not believe he is like that]. Let me put in a vernacular. Parang hindi ako makapaniwala na papatol si Cayetano nyan [that I cannot believe Cayetano will do that]. I don’t think he’s corrupt,” he added.

The President earlier offered an apology to the athletes inconvenienced by the mishaps of the SEA Games preparations and promised to probe the matter.
