A member of the Dutch royal entourage pressed Gov. Greg Abbott on abortion, raising concerns about the safety of women now that Texas has barred the procedure.
Members of the media were allowed to record portions of the meeting, and reporters were asked to leave the room shortly after Abbott’s comments, KXAN reported.
The private discussion included Texas Secretary of State John B. Scott, Minister Schreinemacher, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United States André Haspels, and Executive Director of the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Office Adriana Cruz, Netherland officials said in a statement.
During the discussion, the governor and Her Majesty exchanged gifts from their nations, including two pairs of Texas cowboy boots, a porcelain State of Texas bowl, a signed framed photograph of Their Majesties, an appliqué delft, and a Holland vase. While in Austin, Máxima also joined Mayor Steve Adler and other city officials for a scenic trip on a Gazelle e-bike along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail from Austin City Hall to the Central Library.
