For a seventh straight year, Durham College is celebrating its status as one of Canada’s greenest employers.

The special recognition comes from MediaCorp Canada Inc. It commends companies for environmentally-conscious initiatives. “It’s an honour to be named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers again and emphasize our commitment and motivation toward a greener future,” said Don Lovisa, college president. “The breadth of our sustainability projects and focus on green initiatives demonstrates how we are leading the way across both of our campuses for the betterment of the environment and our community.”

While applying for the competition, the college highlighted recent efforts in sustainable agriculture, as well as its new composting facility. Through its various programs, students are able to grow their own food, prepare it for diners and then convert the organic waste into new soil, which officials describe as “field to fork loop.”
