A 54-year-old man from Chatsworth, Durban, was arrested for robbing a 66-year-old pensioner of her SASSA grant money and cellphone after meeting her on the dating site Badoo. The suspect and the victim went to Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti to withdraw the pensioner's R2,000 grant. After several hours, the suspect drove the victim to a garage and then sped off with her bag, money, and phone.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa , the 66-year-old Isipingo pensioner had met a 54-year-old Chatsworth man on a dating site called Badoo. "The couple went to Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti to draw her monthly SASSA grant of R2,000.Balram said after approximately three hours, she was driven to a garage to freshen up.
"The suspect then sped off with her bag, R2,000 in cash and her mobile phone. He then deleted his profile on Badoo."After investigation, the car was traced to Montford in Chatsworth.Balram said that he decided to speed off when the pensioner had become demanding for financial assistance after they had engaged in sexual intercourse at the Hazelmere Dam.He used R400 of the stolen money to purchase engine oil for his vehicle.
