After Dubs guard Jordan Poole's disastrous postseason, one longtime NBA guard is now wondering if even Laker Austin Reaves is better than him.
11th-year NBA guard Austin Rivers spent seven nuanced minutes debating whom he'd take: Poole or Reaves?
“Holy s—t. Isn’t that crazy that that’s a question? ... 'Cause it’s an actual valid question. ... Last year, Austin Reaves was happy enough to just make the Lakers,” said Rivers, who did the entire interview sitting in front of a wild painting of several versions of himself in different NBA jerseys he's worn. “To think a year later, after watching the Warriors do what they did, they won, Jordan was incredible, his value.
“His skill level is not the same as Jordan Poole’s,” Rivers said of Reaves, after applauding Reaves' aggressiveness at length. “It’s not even in the same realm. It’s not. I don’t know if you see this s—t that Jordan Poole does. And the range he has, the shot-making ability. If you’re talking skill level to skill level, they’re not even in the same — and I, again, I say this is an Austin Reaves fan, I like his game. He’s nowhere near Jordan Poole.
Interestingly, Rivers spoke at length about why Poole struggled this season, ultimately pointing to the Warriors' “loose” system as being a big contributor to his not taking the next step in his career. Rivers complimented the Warriors and their culture at length but ultimately said a place like San Antonio would be a better fit for Poole.
Asked by co-host Pausha Haghighi if he thinks the Spurs would put up with Poole “dancing with the ball,” Rivers was unequivocal.
