Pieter-Steph du Toit becomes the first South African to win World Rugby’s Men’s 15s Player of the Year award twice, cementing his place in rugby history. Seven Springboks, including Du Toit, Etzebeth, Kolbe, Nche, Marx, de Allende, and Kriek, were named in the World Rugby Men’s 15s Dream Team for 2024.
Springbok flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit has made history by becoming the first South African to win World Rugby ’s Men’s 15s Player of the Year award for a second time. The 32-year-old, who also won the award in 2019, was nominated alongside teammates Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, and Ireland’s Caelan Doris. Du Toit was also one of seven Springboks included in the World Rugby Men’s 15s Dream Team for 2024 at the awards ceremony in Monaco last night.
The trio of Du Toit, Etzebeth and Kolbe were joined in the side by prop Ox Nche, hooker Malcolm Marx and the centre pairing of Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriek. SA Rugby President, Mark Alexander, praised all the players for their recognition after a remarkable year for the world champions, who registered an 84.6% record after claiming the Rugby Championship, the Nelson Mandela Challenge Plate, Freedom Cup, and the Prince William Cup for beating Wales on Saturday. Apart from Du Toit, only two other South Africans have won top honours, including Schalk Burger in 2004 and Bryan Habana in 2007
