Khama Billiat was absent for Chiefs due to suspension, while Keagan Dolly came back into the starting line-up along with Cole Alexander. Meanwhile, Lebogang Manyama and Erick Mathoho were out with injuries.
Chiefs were having the better of the chances with their goalkeeper Brandon Peterson a mere spectator and the Amakhosi shot-stopper pumped it long for Samir Nurkovic, who challenged in the air as it fell to Dolly but his volley went wide. On the half-hour mark some slick flowing football by the Rockets ended with Kerebotse Mongae receiving a pass and firing off a left footed effort that Peterson had to dive full length to his right to push away.
Dolly then went on a mazy run bursting through a gap in the inside right and got a shot off but it was a relatively easy save for Buthelezi in the end. The Chiefs playmaker was in the thick of things as next another excellent cross found Alexander, who headed wide.
